A Chance to Understand: A Career as a Nursing Assistant Have you ever asked the question who takes care of my grandparents or parents while theyââ¬â¢re in a nursing home or hospital? Do you have an interest in making someoneââ¬â¢s life easier by helping them with simple life tasks? If you have ever been interested in helping someone, then becoming a nursing assistant is the right job for you. The definition of a nursing assistant is ââ¬Å"A person who has completed a brief health care training program and who provides support services for RNs and LPNs. Also known as an orderly or, when certified by a state agency, a certified nurse aide (CNA).â⬠In this essay I will explain what the definition of a nursing assistant is to me. I will also include theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Anything a resident reports to an assistant gets reported to the nurse later on in the shift. Assistants tell the nurses basically everything that happens during their shift. To give an example of a situation, ââ¬Å"While bathing Mrs. Jones, Amanda, her assistant, noticed a large bruise on her left leg. Amanda asked Mrs. Jones if she knew where the bruise came from and Mrs. Jones said no.â⬠Amanda must report this bruise to the nurse so the nurse can look into the situation. Amanda must also report this on Mrs. Jones bathing sheet so the next nursing assistant that gives Mrs. Jones a bath will know that the bruise has been already reported. Nurses may get annoyed at times with nursing assistant because they report so much in a day, but thatââ¬â¢s an assistantââ¬â¢s job. If it wasnââ¬â¢t for nursing assistants the nurses would have a very long day. Assistants overall make the nurseââ¬â¢s job much easier and not so cumbersome. In conclusion, nursing assistants are the foundation of health care. If it wasnââ¬â¢t for the nursing assistants the residents in nursing homes, assistant home units, or hospitals would not get the attention they need. The nurses would have to do all their work plus the work of an assis tant.
